Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung.
It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.

With Mary we behold it, the Virgin Mother kind.
To show God’s love aright, she bore to us a Savior,

Who felt our human woe,
Who dost our weakness know.
Was born on earth this night,
proclaimed by angels bright.

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming with glorious splendor
from tender stem hath sprung!
Lord, King of glory, the Lord of glory,
bring us at length we pray
to the bright courts of heav’n.
