From the composer…
a tired sun is a reflection on the ambiance at the library on my campus. I tend to visit on sunny days, drawn to the giant windows that overlook the campus green. In the overwhelming heat, I find all of the burdens of the week hovering over my head, but never crashing. – Wen Wen Van Der Wende
a tired sun features antiphonal choirs. Choir 1 serves as the atmosphere to the piece, adding aleatoric or rhythmic soundscape-like lines that accent Choir 2. Choir 2 provides the grounding of the piece and should be conducted in time like a traditional choir.
Text
goodmorning to garages
a sun left over from yesterday
dew hugging skies,
just a little
my street has no people on it
and this house might dry out
under the sun’s waterfall pressing against the
windows
Where was I going?
What are you supposed to do on days like these?
– Joe Hayes
