This 19th century arrangement by Pierre-Louis Diesch is based on Jacob Arcadelt’s three-part secular chanson, Nous voyons que les hommes. Diesch adapted the top three parts from Arcadelt’s original setting and added the bass line himself.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Translation

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners.
Pray for us now and in the hour of our death. Amen.
