In 2015, our founder, Casey Rule, wanted to create a new music publishing experience, specifically for choral music composers, conductors, and their choirs. The goal: a curated collection of music, engraved well, where folks could find that perfect piece. Composers would maintain ownership of their work and receive the lion’s share of the profits. The old model just didn’t work for Casey. So he built NoteNova from the ground up.
Fast forward to 2021. Casey brought on composer Peter de Mets to assume the role of Director of Operations and guide the catalog, and choral professional Mark A. Boyle as Director of Communications. Toward the end of the year, Mark and Peter took over the company and began recruiting members for an Editorial Review Board, turning NoteNova into a peer reviewed catalog.
Peter brings over 30 years a professional church musician and composer to the company and has been commissioned to compose choral, instrumental and theatrical music by Central Bucks High Schools West and East, the George Street Playhouse, Passage Theatre Company, Council Rock High School North, Pennsbury High School, Mercer Dance Ensemble, Ewing High School, Morrisville Presbyterian Church, Salem United Church of Christ, the Susquehanna University Chapel Council, Princeton Opera Association, Mercer County Performing Arts High School’s Dance department, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He composed the music for HOUSE ARREST/WATERGATE THE MUSICAL which premiered this during the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. His choral fanfare, ONE WORLD ONE DREAM (composed for Council Rock High School North), was premiered in Beijing, China as a part of the celebrations anticipating the 2008 Summer Olympics and was also performed in London before the 2012 Games.Peter’s music has also been performed in the National Cathedral, the National Basilica, the White House, and in concert halls throughout the United States and Canada.
Mark has been working as a conductor, poet, composer, and tenor for three decades. Currently he serves as Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and conducts the Pittsburgh Compline Choir. He is active within the American Choral Directors Association, having served state boards in Indiana, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. His technical expertise guides app usage for ACDA at the National and Regional levels. Mark also serves as the web manager for the Eastern Region.
Mark’s choral works have been heard across the US and around the world. His poetry has been set by Peter de Mets, Joseph Gregoria, Justine Koontz, Ellen Gilson Voth, Wayne Diettrick, and Mark Anderson. As a tenor, he has been a rostered artist with Kinnara Ensemble, the Princeton Singers, Fuma Sacra, and the Pittsburgh Camerata.
Together, Mark and Peter bring a new direction to NoteNova: a composer-owned catalog, peer reviewed by some of the most successful people in the choral industry. We are excited you are here and know you will find something special for your choir!
