Sametz sets Emily Dickinson’s heartfelt text, Late Love. From the composer:
I set lines chosen by my dear friend and colleague of many years, Eileen Wavrek Wescoe, a deep and emotional reader of Emily Dickinson. While the lines fragment the original poems, Eileen has chosen to create her own “quilt” of Dickinson’s poetry to describe a new love that came to her in her 87th year, Paul (a career pilot, he is the “member of the Cloud” from poem 273). The excerpt from poem 1605 reflects that Eileen and Paul both lost their first spouses, who still have a place in their lives. The last is a goodbye, not for the moment, but the presence of which is felt in late love.
